A Message to Our Customers About Coronavirus

As the current strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) increases its presence around the globe, Spice World wants to reassure our loyal customers that your health and wellbeing is our top priority. Since our founding in 1949 as a California based garlic grower and distributor, we take great pride in our commitment to enhancing lives by delivering fresh and safe ingredients.

As America’s top supplier of fresh garlic to supermarkets across the country, we recognize there are currently consumer concerns about the safety of imported products and food stuffs. Spice World has taken all available precautionary steps within our facilities to educate our workforce and partners on the best handling practices, and hand sanitation. Spice World has added additional hand wash stations and conducted staff training to educate and limit the potential transmission or contamination from COVID-19 within our facilities.

COVID-19 virus is a respiratory virus and easily transmitted between humans in close proximity to each other. Given the airborne nature, moisture and temperature sensitivity of the COVID 19 virus it is unlikely that a live virus could be sustained in the dry cool environment for transported or stored garlic.

Spice World is closely monitoring updates from the CDC, Johns Hopkins Medical, and the Food and Drug Administration, which has determined: “Currently there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19.  Like other viruses, it is possible that the virus that causes COVID-19 can survive on surfaces or objects. For that reason, it is critical to follow the 4 key steps of food safety—clean, separate, cook, and chill.”
