How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Step By Step

Step 1: Dice the Potatoes
Begin by preparing the star of the show—those red potatoes! With a kitchen knife, dice 4.5 pounds of red potatoes, placing them in a bowl. Remember to take your time dicing them into uniform one-inch cubes, ensuring even cooking and a consistent texture in your garlic mashed potatoes.
Step 2: Bring Water to Boil and Add in the Potatoes
In a generously sized pot, set over a medium-high heat, bring water to a boil. Once boiling, gently introduce the diced potatoes into the pot. Let them simmer and soften for about 20 minutes.
Step 3: Drain the Potatoes
Once the potatoes have gotten tender, carefully drain them, allowing any excess moisture to escape. This simple step is critical to adding layers of flavor to these soon-to-be delicious garlic mashed potatoes.
Step 4: Add in the Butter and Garlic
Now let’s spice things up! In the same pot, add 3 tablespoons of salted butter and 4 tablespoons of Spice World Ready-to-Use Minced Garlic. Allow the butter to melt and sauté the garlic for a couple of minutes until fragrant—one of the best scents a kitchen can have!
Step 5: Return the Potatoes and Coat with the Garlic Butter
In the pot, carefully stir your tender potatoes back in and coat each piece with the garlic and butter. Make sure each potato is well covered! It’s this balance of flavors that makes these garlic mashed potatoes simply the best.
Step 6: Mash the Potatoes
Now let’s get mashing! With your trusty potato masher, thoroughly press the coated potatoes to create a creamy texture, to which we will add even more flavor. Remember, this shouldn’t take too much effort, as the potatoes should still be hot and soft from the boiling water.
Step 7: Add Cream Cheese, Parsley, Salt & Pepper
Gently remove the pot from the heat and add 8 ounces of softened cream cheese for some velvety richness. Then, sprinkle in a quarter cup of freshly chopped parsley and season to taste with salt and pepper. Mash it all together until the cream cheese has fully melted.
Step 8: Stir in Some Milk
Once everything is incorporated, stir in anywhere from 1 cup to 1-1/2 cups of milk until the garlic mashed potatoes reach your desired consistency. Dairy is the secret to silky, smooth mashed potatoes, so make sure you don’t forget it!
Step 9: Serve and Enjoy!
Now all that’s left is to invite a few friends over and grab a heaping helping of these delicious garlic mashed potatoes! Oh, and don’t be surprised if they run out quickly!
