How to Achieve your New Year’s Resolutions in the Kitchen

Ready or not, here comes 2024!  Whether you set goals, resolutions, or a word to guide your year, many of us view the New Year as a chance to take better care of ourselves. Good news, friends: Health begins in the kitchen. By incorporating fresh, nutrient dense ingredients in your recipes, you’re adding healthy flavor that can help you achieve your nutrition goals.

Super Green Ginger Smoothie

Go green this month by starting your day with a refreshing smoothie, filled with colorful produce available year-round at your local supermarket. It’s perfect after a challenging workout: The ginger can help alleviate muscle aches and even calm an upset stomach.

  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1 cup fresh kale
  • 1 apple, cored and cut into chunks
  • 1 banana, sliced
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 Tbsp Spice World Squeezable Ginger
  • ½ cup coconut water
  • ½ cup ice
  • A small handful of fresh mint leaves
  • Optional: 1 scoop of protein powder

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender.
  • Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  • Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

Spice World Easy Onion Hummus

Looking to add more fiber to your day? Give this hummus a go! In addition to the chickpeas, onions are a surprising source of fiber, which can aid in digestive health. Try this hummus on sandwiches instead of mayonnaise to add flavor and heart healthy unsaturated fat, or as a dip for raw veggies.

  • Combine tahini and lemon juice in a food processor. Process for 1 minute. Scrape the bowl and process for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Add the olive oil, Spice World Minced Garlic, Spice World Ready-to-Use Chopped Easy Onion, cumin, and salt to the whipped tahini and lemon juice. Process for 30 seconds, scrape the bowl, and process again for 30 seconds.
  • Open and drain the chickpeas.
  • Add half of the chickpeas to the food processor and process for 1 minute. Scrape bowl and then add remaining chickpeas. Process until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Drizzle with olive oil, paprika, and parsley for garnish.

Roasted Garlic

Show your heart some love with this 3-ingredient roasted garlic. It’s a creamy, slightly sweet, and versatile topping for lean meats, vegetables, or spread on toasted whole grain bread with caramelized onions and a sprinkle of goat cheese. Need a few more reasons to try this recipe? Garlic has been shown to reduce high blood pressure and lower total cholesterol and LDL levels by 10 to 15 percent.

Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container, for 3-4 days. Gently reheat them in the microwave at 50% power. They’ll be just as good as when freshly cooked.
