A Bold and Flavorful History – Celebrating 75 Years of Spice World

For 75 years, Spice World has been “America’s Favorite Garlic,” providing fresh, convenient flavor to homes across the country. Since the company’s humble beginnings in 1949, much has changed, but one thing has remained the same: our commitment to quality, consistency, and flavor in every Spice World product. Learn more about our garlic-infused legacy and some delicious recipes along the way!

In 1949, the company now known as Spice World Inc. was founded as A&A Garlic Company, named after Andy “Pops” Caneza and his wife Ann. While overseas serving in World War II, Pops experienced the savory and spicy flavor of garlic. When he returned home, he was determined to share this exciting new flavor with his family and friends, starting in his hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s, Pops would load up his family in his station wagon and drive them across the United States on a grass-roots campaign to sell garlic to grocery stores.

And, much like how “Pops” would fill up his station wagon up with garlic, this garlic bread is packed with garlicky flavor and sure to become a new favorite side dish!

Garlic Pull Apart Bread

Ingredients

  • 16 oz loaf of sourdough bread
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ tsp Spice World Ready-to-Use Minced Garlic
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tsp salt, or to taste

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 375° F.
  • Cut a grid on the bread: Cut into 1-inch slices, then turn the loaf a quarter turn and repeat to make a diamond grid, making cuts through the loaf and stopping before you reach the bottom crust. Place the loaf of bread on a foil-lined sheet pan.
  • In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, Spice World Ready-to-Use Minced Garlic, Italian seasoning, rosemary, and parsley. Mix until combined, and evenly spoon the butter into the cuts made in the bread.
  • Stuff each pocket of bread with the mozzarella cheese and wrap the bread in the foil to cover.
  • Bake the bread for a total of 20 minutes: 10 minutes covered, and 10 minutes uncovered. Once the cheese is nicely melted and golden brown, it’s ready to serve.

This recipe comes together simply thanks to our Ready-to-Use Minced Garlic, but do you know what year this product originally debuted?

In 1981, to accommodate the company’s continued growth, Spice World moved its flavorful operations to a larger headquarters in Orlando, Florida. And later, in 1987, Spice World Ready-to-Use Minced Garlic (the first jarred garlic on the market) was introduced, changing the way consumers cook with and enjoy garlic.

We also, changed the way our flavor fans use onion! Don’t believe us? Here’s another example of a delicious (and easy) meal that that’s full of bold Spice World flavor thanks to our Ready-to-Use Chopped Easy Onion!

As our operations grew, Spice World opened a packing, processing, and distribution facility in Coalinga, CA in the early 1990’s. Even today, most of our garlic is still grown in California.

Today, Spice World has continued to innovate with garlic, while expanding our fresh and convenient product portfolio to include ginger, onion, shallots, and seasoning blends. Here are a few of our most flavorful milestones:
